Delta airlines to cut Memphis hub

WMC-TV in Memphis is reporting that Delta Airlines is planning to eliminate its Memphis hub starting in September 3rd:

Delta Air Lines is planning to cut the number of daily flights from 96 departures down to 60-64 per day starting September 3. The cuts will affect about 230 jobs. In addition, Memphis International Airport will no longer be considered a hub for the airline.

This comes a no surprise to regular Memphis-based flyers and Delta flyers who regularly connect through Memphis; the airline has been cutting flights (to 96 per day, down from 290 in June 2009) and downgrading the equipment for quite some time.
